Mama Needs a New Pair of Boots (and a Lift Ticket, Too)

The Mammoth countdown is on—don’t miss this one.

🎉 Mammoth Is Almost Open, Baby — And Mama Needs a New Pair of Shoes 🥾

The countdown is on.
Mammoth Mountain opens Friday, November 14, and I’m already stretching like it’s race day at the Olympics. Not because I’m competing—but because these legs haven’t touched snow since spring and I refuse to cramp on Chair 5.

My boots? Retired.
My quads? Waking up.
My gear room? Starting to look like REI had a love child with a dryer lint trap.

And yes... mama needs a new pair of shoes.

🥾 “The Boot That Broke My Heart… and My Shins”

Last March, I took a high-speed lap down Cornice on boots that had been hanging on by a thread—and by “thread” I mean a half-torn power strap and emotional attachment.

By the third run, my shins were screaming, my left cuff gave out, and I realized it was time. Time to treat myself like the seasoned shredder I am and finally get boots that didn’t feel like ski-shaped concrete.

So this season, I picked up the Rossignol Pure Comfort 60s.
👉 Soft flex.
👉 Toasty liners.
👉 Wide fit with actual breathing room.

It’s like skiing in a warm hug.
And honestly, I’m mad I waited this long.

🛠️ Your Pre-Season Game Plan (Yes, You Need One)

The snow will be here before your snowboarder buddy finishes waxing poetic about powder karma.
So prep now:

  • 👟 Try on your boots. If your toes are curled like cocktail shrimp, it's time to upgrade.

  • 🔧 Tuning time. Get your edges sharpened and bases waxed. That first-day snow is no joke.

  • 🏋️‍♂️ Leg Day is now.

    • Squats

    • Lunges

    • Balance drills on a pillow
Even 10 minutes a day can save your legs from burning like a bonfire on Broadway.

  • 🧠 Get your mind on mountain time.
Picture it: First run. No lines. Sierra sun in your face. It’s happening.

🏔️ What’s Coming at Mammoth (Besides Epic Turns)

Opening Day is November 14 🎉
But that’s just the tip of the mountain. Look what’s rolling in after:

  • Dec 7–13: 🎿 Kids Ski Free Week – 12 and under ride free!

  • Dec 14: 🎆 Night of Lights – Fireworks, music, holiday cheer. Bundle up and bring the cocoa.

  • Every Fri/Sat: 🍻 Après Parties at Canyon Lodge – DJ in a gondola car? Yes, please.

🎯 How to Nail Opening Weekend (Without Faceplanting on Broadway)

  • ⏰ Go early. First chair = less crowd, more carve.

  • 🧴 Layer like an onion. Altitude + sun = sneaky dehydration and sunburn.

  • 🚗 Leave before L.A. wakes up. Traffic on the 395 can turn your stoke into sulk.

  • Pack snacks. No one skis well hangry.

  • 💬 Check conditions often. Mammoth updates are your lifeline.

💬 Sasha’s Truth Bomb

Opening Day is about presence, not performance.

👉 Your turns don’t need to be pretty.
👉 You don’t need to break land-speed records.
👉 You just need to show up, suit up, and take that first glorious slide.

Because nothing—nothing—feels better than your first whoosh down the hill after a long off-season.

✨ The Big Lesson

The real ride starts before the snow falls.
Prep your gear. Prime your body. Visualize that first turn. The best skiers I know? They start with a plan.
