Presidents' Day Powder Incoming + The Hottest Events at SoCal Resorts!
Massive Storm = Fresh Snow + Epic Events Ahead
🌧️ From Flood Fears to Powder Dreams ❄️
I've been staring out my window in Altadena all day, watching the rain pour down in sheets. The sidewalks have turned into rivers. The news is talking about flash floods. My backyard? Now a tiny, muddy lake.
But you know what? All this water means one thing for us skiers—SNOW!
And plenty of it—especially in Mammoth! This Presidents' Day weekend, expect a fresh reset at some resorts, while others get a lighter refresh.
Let’s break down the total expected snowfall between February 13–16 and the best events happening at every resort.
🌨️ Total Snowfall & Weather Outlook (Feb 13–16)
Mammoth Mountain 🏔️
❄ Total Snowfall: 1 to 2 feet of fresh powder expected!
☀ Weekend Forecast: Cold mornings, sunny afternoons—prime ski conditions.
🎉 Events:
Sunshine Cup, 2 SL (Feb 15–16) – Watch (or race!) in this slalom showdown.
Unbound Series Halfpipe (Feb 15–16) – Catch SoCal’s best freestyle skiers & riders.
Honky Tonk on the Hill (Feb 15–16, 12:30-3:30 PM) – Country music + après drinks at The Mill.
Après Party at Canyon Lodge (Feb 15–16, 2:30-5:00 PM) – DJ beats & beer garden vibes.
🚨 Avalanche Warning: Big snow means big risks. If you’re going off-piste, know your terrain and check the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center. Stay safe.
Big Bear / Snow Summit / Snow Valley 🏔️
❄ Total Snowfall: Little to no accumulation expected. Thursday’s storm is bringing mostly rain with some mixed snow, but not enough to build a fresh base.
☀ Weekend Forecast: Dry, sunny, and mild—groomers should be in great shape for carving turns.
🎉 Events:
Goldsmith Race #3 SL (Feb 15) at Snow Summit – A high-speed slalom event.
Night Sessions (Feb 15) at Snow Summit & Snow Valley – Ski under the stars till 8:30 PM!
Mountain High 🏔️
❄ Total Snowfall: 1 to 3 inches expected. A light refresh, but enough to soften things up.
☀ Weekend Forecast: Cool mornings, warmer afternoons—classic SoCal spring-like conditions.
🎉 Events:
Kona DJ Party on the West Deck (Feb 15) – Après beats & brews.
Spy Optics Goggle Demo (Feb 16) – Test out the latest lenses before you buy!
🚗 Travel Tips for the Storm Weekend
Don’t get caught in a traffic nightmare. Here’s how to prep for the long weekend rush:
✅ Check Caltrans road conditions before heading up.
✅ Carry chains, even if you have AWD. No chains? No skiing.
✅ Stock up on snacks & gas. Expect traffic delays.
✅ Download resort apps for real-time lift + snow updates.
Pro Tip: Storm skiing is legendary, but visibility can be sketchy. Goggles with low-light lenses + layers are a must.
