Snow’s Back, Baby! Don’t Call It a Comeback, Call It March Magic!❄️🎿

From Mammoth to Baldy, SoCal’s mountains are back in action!

March Means Snow in SoCal: Storms, Powder, and Spring Skiing Tips ❄️⛷️

March in Southern California isn’t just about blooming flowers and beach days—it’s also prime time for fresh snow in our local mountains. And guess what? Mother Nature just delivered! 🌨️

Let’s break down what this week’s storms mean for Big Bear, Mountain High, Mammoth, and Mt. Baldy—plus, some key tips for making the most of SoCal spring skiing.

Storm Recap: A Winter Comeback! 🌬️

Southern California just got hit with a solid winter storm (March 5-6, 2025), dropping fresh snow across our favorite ski resorts. The National Weather Service confirmed significant precipitation, with snow levels reaching as low as 3,000 feet. And the best part? There’s more on the way next week! 🤯

Meteorologists are calling this the “Raiden Storm Pattern” (cool name, right?), meaning multiple systems could keep bringing fresh powder throughout March. So, if you thought the season was winding down—think again!

How Our Local Mountains Are Looking 🏔️

The recent storms have transformed our SoCal ski resorts, setting the stage for an exciting weekend ahead. Here's the latest:

🔹 Big Bear Mountain Resort & Snow SummitFresh snow = prime conditions. Expect soft turns in the morning and playful slush by the afternoon. And if you're scouting for an event, you’re in luck—the 21st Annual Bear Mountain Scout Weekend (March 8-9) is on! Scouts can earn their Snow Sports Merit Badge while soaking up that high-altitude goodness.

🔹 Mountain HighStorm snow has left the coverage looking solid, and this weekend is the perfect time to hit the slopes before things start warming up again. No major events are on the schedule, but let’s be real—the main event is you, carving up fresh SoCal snow.

🔹 Mammoth Mountain – Already having a killer season, Mammoth just got another fresh coat of white gold. Want some extra après action? The Weekend Après Party at Canyon Lodge Sundeck is happening—live DJs, drinks, and mountain vibes to keep the energy high after the lifts stop spinning.

🔹 Mt. Baldy – The recent storm has delivered a substantial amount of snow to Mt. Baldy. As of March 2, 2025, the resort reported an upper snow depth of approximately 40 inches. This significant snowfall has transformed Mt. Baldy into a prime destination for those seeking steep and deep spring turns. The resort is scheduled to reopen on March 7, 2025, following the recent storm.

Spring Skiing: Pro Tips for Making the Most of It 🌞🎿

Spring skiing in SoCal means bluebird days, soft snow, and good vibes. But it also comes with its own set of challenges. Here’s how to ride like a pro:

✔️ Start Early – Morning snow is firmer and more fun. By midday, it softens up—great for playful turns but tricky if you wait too long.

✔️ Layer Smart – It might start cold, but the sun will heat things up. Dress in layers so you don’t overheat by noon.

✔️ Sunscreen Is Mandatory – Snow reflects sunlight, meaning double the UV exposure. Don’t be that person with a goggle tan and sunburnt nose. I like Headhunter Sunscreen Face Stick! 🥵

✔️ Hydrate Like an Athlete – Warm temps = more dehydration. Drink water throughout the day to avoid feeling sluggish.

✔️ Wax Your Skis/Snowboard – Warm, sticky snow slows you down. A spring wax job keeps you cruising smoothly. I recommend OneBallJay 4WD Warm Wax—perfect for SoCal’s slushy spring conditions. 🚀

The Big Lesson

March storms mean bonus powder days for SoCal skiers. Whether you're chasing deep snow at Mammoth, spring corn at Baldy, or sunny laps at Mountain High, this is NOT the time to pack away your gear. Get out there while the snow lasts!

Because in skiing, just like in life: Timing is everything. 🎿
