The Best Ski Trips Always Start With One Text Message 📱
It's never just a text. It's the beginning of another mountain memory.
Hey Ski Fam,
A funny thing happened this week.
My phone buzzed.
It wasn't anything important.
Just two words.
"You in?"
That was it.
No details.
No date.
No resort.
Just two little words that every skier somehow understands.
Within a few minutes, the conversation had already taken on a life of its own.
"Mammoth?"
"Maybe Big Bear?"
"Depends on the snow."
"I'm driving if everyone pitches in for gas."
"Who's bringing breakfast burritos?" 🌯😄
Before anyone realized it...
We weren't just texting anymore.
The trip had already begun.
❤️ Every Great Ski Trip Starts the Same Way
The funny thing is, I can't remember how most of my favorite ski trips actually started.
I don't remember who sent the first text. I don't remember who picked the resort. I don't even remember what time we left.
But I remember almost everything that happened after that.
I also remember that every single one of those trips began with someone reaching out.
One simple message.
One little idea.
One person willing to ask...
"You want to go skiing?"
Sometimes that's all it takes to create a memory you'll still be talking about years later.
🎿 The Planning Is Half the Fun
If you're not a skier, this part probably sounds a little crazy.
But I honestly think planning a ski trip is almost as much fun as taking one.
The group text starts filling up with screenshots of weather forecasts. Someone checks the webcams. Another friend insists one resort got six more inches than everybody else. Somebody starts talking about traffic before anyone has even agreed on where they're going.
Then the negotiations begin.
"Can we leave at 4:30?"
"Absolutely not."
"Fine...5:00." 😄
Little by little, the trip starts coming together.
Long before we ever buckle our boots.
🚗 Every Great Day Begins in the Dark
There might not be a prettier sunrise than the one you watch while driving toward the mountains.
The coffee is still hot.
The freeway is quiet.
The conversation is a mix of excitement and half-awake mumbling because nobody got quite enough sleep.
Then, somewhere around the last bend in the road...
You see the mountains.
Even in the middle of summer, I can picture that moment perfectly.
The first glimpse always makes me smile.
Because I know what's waiting on the other side.
❤️ The Best Part Usually Isn't the Skiing
When I think back on my favorite ski trips, it's funny what I remember.
I remember laughing over breakfast before first chair.
I remember someone forgetting their gloves.
I remember getting snowed on while loading the lift.
I remember telling stories on the drive home about that one perfect run we all wished we could ski again.
The skiing was incredible.
But somehow...
The people are what stayed with me.
Years later, I can't always remember how much snow fell that weekend.
But I can still remember who was sitting next to me on the chairlift.
That's probably why I never hesitate when one of those texts shows up.
I already know it's about much more than skiing.
🌄 One Little Text Can Change a Whole Weekend
That's what I love about being part of the skiing community.
We don't need months of planning.
Sometimes we don't even need a destination.
All it takes is one person saying...
"Who's up for skiing?"
Suddenly calendars start moving around.
Weather apps get opened.
Vacation days somehow become available.
And before you know it...
A random weekend becomes one of your favorite memories.
Funny how that works.
✨ One Small Challenge This Week
So here's my challenge.
Text your favorite ski buddy.
Not because there's snow on the ground.
Not because you've picked a date.
Not because you've booked a hotel.
Just because it's fun to start dreaming together.
Maybe your message is...
"First trip this winter?"
Or...
"Think we'll get an early storm?"
Or simply...
"You in?"
Sometimes the best adventures begin with two little words.
✨ Summer Proverb
"Every great ski memory begins with someone saying, 'You in?'" 🎿
💌 Quick Question
Who's the first person you text when ski season starts getting close?
The friend who's always willing to drive?
The powder hound who somehow knows where the best snow is?
Or the person who never says no to one more run?
Hit reply and tell me about your favorite ski partner. I'd love to hear who makes your mountain days unforgettable.
Or save this newsletter for later. Better yet, send it to the person you're already hoping to ski with this winter.
Who knows...
It might be the first text that starts your favorite day of next winter.
Summer has a funny way of making us think ski season is far away.
Sometimes all it takes is one little text to remind us it isn't.
Until the next text...
See you on the mountain.
